Saddle up for Freedom
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a day of celebration, reflection, and community, honoring the strength of those who fought for freedom.
The Role of Black Cowboys
After slavery, many Black men found opportunity as cowboys, ranchers, and trailblazers. One in four cowboys was Black, helping to shape the Western frontier. Legends like Bass Reeves and Nat Love proved that Black cowboys played a major role in American history, despite often being left out of the story.
Blues, BBQ & The Cowboy Spirit
Blues music, barbecue, and cowboy culture all share roots in Black resilience, independence, and tradition. From the work songs of enslaved people to the trail songs of Black cowboys, music helped shape the blues.
At Blues & BBQ at the Ranch, we honor both freedom and the Black cowboy legacy, celebrating history with music, food, and fellowship—just as our ancestors did.
