HERstory
In 2020, after the passing of Rev. David Scruggs Sr., his daughter, Krystal Henderson, had a vision to honor his legacy through a celebration of culture, history, and community. In 2021, she brought that vision to life with a small Juneteenth gathering, marking the beginning of what is now known as Blues & BBQ.
What started as an intimate event has grown each year into a family-friendly eveny that celebrates Black culture while giving back to the community. With the support of the Henderson, Morman, and Scruggs families, Blues & BBQ has become a space for education, entertainment, and empowerment.
Each year, the event focuses on a unique theme that highlights the rich history and contributions of Black Americans:
2021: Black Milestones in Arkansas Education
2022: Famous Arkansans
2023: Black Seeds of Freedom – The True Story of Watermelon
2024: Hooked on Heritage – The Story of the Waterways
At its core, Blues & BBQ is more than just an event—it’s a movement. Through music, delicious food, historical storytelling, and community engagement, we bring people together to honor the past and inspire the future.
Proceeds from this event are given back to the community in memory of Rev. David Scruggs Sr., ensuring that his legacy of faith, service, and empowerment continues.
Join us for an unforgettable celebration where culture, history, and community come alive. Blues & BBQ isn’t just an event—it’s a legacy in the making.
